moving home, new line or existing?
« on: June 20, 2016, 07:57:58 AM »

hi. just exchanged contracts and getting the keys friday, ive started moving services such as water, council tax etc.

Now two choices for BT:

1) use existing line, its an old house, she didnt have adsl/vdsl, looks potentially old wiring. Master socket is upstairs in master bedroom. I fit a MK3 plate possibly.
2) new line £130 let BT take care of it.

Wife is obviously leaning towards the £0 cost, but  we want the best out of our connection, it sais we should get around 62mb, which is great coming from 32mb.

thanks

The wiring may look old and, indeed, may be old but that will not necessarily be detrimental to the quality of the xDSL service you receive.

Granted, depending upon how many years old and, thus, the specification of cable used, the type(s) of socket(s) fitted, etc, could result in xDSL service problems.

Either take a series of photographs of socket(s), exterior view and internally (clearly showing the wire colours and terminal to which the wires are connected), any junction box(es), exterior view and internally (wire colours and terminals, as above), the cabling as it enters the property and the location & type of the service feed (aerial or underground) so that we can give you an opinion -- OR -- just have a new line fitted.  :)
