Zyxel 8324/8924 change sttings without VDSL resync?
« on: April 19, 2016, 01:58:08 PM »

Is it possible to change settings without rebooting the entire router which would cause a modem resync?

Since I currently have a modem + router setup and it's handy since I only have the reboot the router if certain settings are changed.

It depends on the setting you want to change..

Anything else apart from modem settings. Is this possible?

Since I don't want to have to keep rebooting just to change settings which would cause DLM to perhaps take action.

Hi

Very few changes required a reboot of the 8924.  Perhaps only a firmware update, changing modem settings, and restoring config changes.

It might be worth connecting it to the modem and use it's WAN port when you first get to avoid any issues whilst you play and configure it at the start.

Regards

Just thought I would mention" be"has been looking at the 8924 with me as we are having issues with stats monitoring. Its probably the telnet issue only allowing 1 session but so far we have not resolved it so ending up with lost minutes. Using v13 but might try v14 just to see if it helps or not.

I use it in bridge mode and we are still having issues with monitoring

Cheers

What's the best method to avoid DLM intervention when changing modems?

I leave 31 minutes or a bit more from when you disconnect the dsl lead. You may lose a few hundred k or gain a few hundred K. One swap over should not affect you if you leave 30/40mins from when switching off the old modem. I tend to find 9pm onwards is best for my line...

Cheers. I think I'll connect the Zyxel as a router with the modem first and configure everything before making it all in one.

As mentioned by PhilipD, there are very few setting changes which require reboot.

If you want a new PPP connection (eg to get an new IP) you can also do this without having to perform a resync.

This can be found from Connection Status > Page 2  (click the arrow button on the RH side from the default opening screen where it says status)

Then next to where it says "IPv4 Address:"  click the "Disconnect" button.
You will likely have to refresh the page after youve reconnected.
