Just thought i'd give you an update. I've not had much time to look into the details on this yet, but last night I swapped out my Draytek for a Zyxel router. Surprise, surprise! Sync is much improved and it's jumped to 53M/18M. I'm going to leave things alone for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

The DrayTek (Lantiq chipset) applies reed solomon coding (R) on the downstream even when it's fastpath. The Zyxel (Broadcom chipset) doesn't do this. This is why there's quite a bit of difference between the sync rate. This is also why Lantiq can have a lower rate of CRC errors/error seconds in some cases.
