I expect be handled like this.

55/10 to replace 40/10 for new customers.

existing customers stay as they are but they can ring for upgrade, and given if agree to new contract.

Yep agree, its what they have tended to do in the past - hence my mention of legacy accounts.
They may however make use of the special offer on bulk modify at some point, but who knows when.  Its obviously not only going to cost them for the modifies, but also the increased port cost.

The graph shows that 80% of the population is currently getting 40Mbps of sync speed.
It straight line drops because many of them could get more than 40 Mbps, but they are restricted to 40Mbps only because they are on the 40Mbps product.

I thought you might say that, but just take a look at my pbParams band plans and you will see no way could I make use of the 55/10 service  ;)

You personally may not be able to, but 50% of the population could.

There is no point for people ordering up to 55mbps if they barely achieve 40mbps even for the same price unless BT Infinity 1 package is 40/2 instead of 40/10 right now not sure about this though.

It looks to me like BT will start pushing 55/10 to new customer tomorrow, then when that offer comes up in May they will probably do waves of bulk upgrades.... I think they want to do a Virgin for their customers.

However I also think the this could be tool to push providers like TalkTalk and Plusnet off the 40/2 services and onto the more expensive 55/10...

As we know, headlines always shout about the headline download speed, and when BT pops up on uSwitch boasting a £10 a month cost for 52mb versus a similar offer from TalkTalk or Plusnet, customers will automatically go for BT...

That will earn the 'British Telecommunications plc.' an extra £18.00 per connections per year...

Sorry if this seems a bit tin hat'ish' but just a theory.... and a good idea (from their point of view)

It's a wee bit unfortunate that their sticking with the 10mb upstream profile... would of been good to see 55/15... and maybe follow that with another 'Headline/Eye Catching' "up-to" 110/30 service to replace 80/20

so 52/14.5Mb/s & 104/29Mb/s  ::)

@NS
I thought I'd take some time out to try explain the graph further.  I'm not trying to be funny or smart, just explain how the graph could very easily be misinterpreted because it is using cumulative figures v sync speed,  and not speed to distance like we are probably more used to seeing... and because of this it can be confusing at first glance... so here goes....

From looking at your stats, I see that you currently sync at around 35Mbps.

So now using the graph - I look at 35Mbps and see that the corresponding cumulative figure is approx 85%.
This means that 85% of people can sync at 35Mbps or more.. or alternatively 15% of the population sync at less than 35Mbps.

Lets choose another figure ~ 70 Mbps the corresponding cumulative figure is 23%.
So the graph shows that 23% of the population can get 70Mbps or more, but 77% of the population get less than 70Mbps.

Now lets go for 20Mbps - the corresponding figure is 96/97%
That means 96/97% of the population can sync at 20Mbps or more
Alternatively, 3-4% of people sync at 20Mbps or less.

Does this help understand how the graph works?  :flower:

I see where you're coming from :D

I wonder what the official average upload speed is.   I tried looking on MDWS to get some idea, but its practically impossible to say.
The problem with upstream is the implementation of PCB and PSD masks.   Because there are 5+ PSD masks depending not only on distance from the cab, but distance from the exchange... so upstream speeds vary a heck of a lot.

Looking at those who currently sync at around 50Mbps it can range form 6732 Mbps to 17Mbps.
There arent really that many who do get more than 10Mbps upstream and a rough guestimate shows about 9Mbps average.

Yeah well it wouldn't really be about what folk will get, its the potential... as it stands a 'few' people can get an attainable of around or over 110/30, but it would allow people to get the potential, I know when i lived at my last address I had (without g.inp) around 57000/21000Kbps which would obviously more than enough for 55/15.... until the faults at my end now, I could get 91000/26000Kbops so 110/30 would see me around 85/25.... and when I first got connected (no neighbors in building/pair) I got 116/31 so were talking 104/29...

AFAIK VDSL2 could have another upstream channel/band added on to the line which could add more up bandwidth too line's.... however I think I'm right in saying this isn't as easy as programming an extra channels and it throwing out an extra bunch of tones... believe it may require additional cards/equipment of sorts as well as extra bandwidth perhaps.

All I know is BT/Openreach need to compete somehow with Virgin Media... it's all well us knowing the advantages and disadvantages of Virgin's services but in the market.... virgin's got the lusty headlines... and BT has 'hostages' .... LIKE ME  :(

The product is 55/10.  They state 52Mbps because of overheads, so 52 is about the max throughput speed.
