I had a similar issue.  It took forcing the ISP to get BT to update their system.  Which ISP/phone provider do you use on your second line?

ISP of 2nd line is Plusnet they say as soon as it updates they'll place the Fiber order, I think the Openreach contracter(Quinn's) stole a neighbor's line as their phones stopped working

Oops!

Wouldnt be the first time that Quinn/Kelly have done so.   Is it completely dead with no dial tone at all?

All I know is that their phone went off around the same time, so they only noticed after the Guy left.

Plusnet did say there were spare pairs at the DP so what did the Quinn guy do??

Also when he saw my NTE5 with a MK3 VDSL faceplate he thought they were only installed for when you have extension lines.....  As a result I had to buy a MK3 off eBay because he didn't even have one for the NTE5 he installed.

This is part of the problem in that the contractors dont have the right kit to do the job properly, so arent always able to check if the line is active or not.  In theory he should have tested if there was a dial tone on the spare pair.   The way they used to do that was dial something like the speaking clock - which resulted in a premium rate call added to the line owners bill.   They got hauled over the coals for that practice, so no idea how they check these days.

The contractor who fitted my VDSL didnt have the proper faceplates either and did a botch job by back-wiring over the unused pair.  He then removed my filtered faceplate on what was the old master socket...  which I'd bought from clarity and was about to walk off with it if I hadnt stopped him.   In the end someone from Openreach had to come out and undo the mess he'd made.    :(

Well in my case he had no idea what he was there to do, I asked about replacing my 1 pair wire with maybe a 2 pair one but he didn't have any so he just put a 2nd one pair wire up.

One of the things he said to me before he went up the pole was that I'd been allocated pair 5 or something along those lines.

I just hope when I get my Fiber Extra activated the line isn't terrible, I watched him do most of it so worst case he messed up the NTE5 termination and I'll have to redo it, he left quite a bit of spare Dropwire too like 0.5- 1m more than needed so I've got plenty to work with.

I wouldn't be too surprised if a good proportion of the bad reputation that Openreach got over the past couple of years is down to their use of contractors.   The general public isnt always aware that it may be Kelly or Quinns when they turn up in a white van that looks something like this, they only see 'Openreach'.

I think they get paid per job so me needing another drop wire is seen like a inconvenience to a contracter compared to someone who's phone jut needs activating.

Also the checker now shows ADSL2+ speeds but still no Fiber, is that a good sign or a bad one  ???

Not sure tbh.  I have seen this happen on a relatives line - in that particular case it was because the cab was full.
I think I read the BE has also just seen the same happen to his line.

Just having a look at the NTE5 on the new line, isn't this the wrong way round?

Phone still works so I assume it's wired the same at either end so it doesn't really matter.
