I get an occasional internet disconnect and the modem does not seem to reconnect automatically and the only way to get it to reconnect i have to reboot modem/router, is this normal ?

The only possible thing that comes to mind is double check everything at your end first, for example wiring (are you using decent cable), the Master socket (are you using filter that came with router or even better are you using a BT MK3 face plate with NTE5A Master socket or even better the new BT MK4 face plate with new NTE5C Master socket combo). The ECI/Lantiq modems do seem to be more finicky, so I would make sure everything is perfect in terms of connectivity first.

Also if the above is right and you still have issues, do you still have issues when you connect the default modem/router combo given to you by ISP etc.

There is no such thing as a "training period" for a G.993.2 (VDSL2) service. The DLM process monitors the circuit from the second day following service provision.

Hi

I hope I have posted correctly, sorry if not and please feel free to delete/move as needed

I received a pdf from a client today, where their FTTC on 40/10 (business) is going to be upgraded (was not requested by our client but sent through from BT), but I am posting here re DLM and training period.

I have to agree, I always believed there were no training involved in FTTC, but this letter states there is a 10 Days training, and best to  wait 10 Days before testing speed

I have put a box around the text to highlight it, and removed identifying information for our client.

Many thanks

John

Where does it say "training"? I can see it says "settle down".

Hi dray

Ahh, your correct, the term used is settle down

To my way of thinking, a 10 day settle down period is the same as a 10 day training period, unless anyone could let me know what the difference is between training and settle down periods are/involve

Especially when you consider dlm takes action on day 2 onwards

Many thanks

As you know, there is no training period. One major difference with DLM is that DLM is always active from day 2 and can take action at any time based on errors and disconnections in the previous 24 hours. For example action on day 3, day 11, day 15, day 210, etc.

Hi dray

Many thanks, yes I knew that but what is the difference between settle down time and training time

I'm sorry if this is obvious, but I cannot see any difference between the contextual meaning for broadband activation

Many thanks

The basic difference is, the line doesn't take 10 days to settle down. It's meaningless.

The suspicion is that BT use it as an excuse to ignore problems for 10 days possibly to get round any consumer laws regarding cooling-off.

I picked up one of these for £160 new, going to test it on my line soon.

I'm returning the TP Link VR2600 as i found it to not be very good for me, I had weird issues, NAT wouldnt open on Xbox One at all, even after opening all the ports, I had voice issues on Discord, even though this was expected my download and upload synced around 3Mbs lower due to the different chipset. This was on the latest firmware/factory reset.

Ok I've used this modem/router for about a couple of days now and so far its been great, compared to the TP Link VR2600, theres no NAT issues at all with Xbox, my sync speed is about the same or higher than my previous Lantiq chipset router (Plusnet Hub One). So for any ECI users I would definitely recommend the D7800 over the VR2600 for sync speed and having no NAT issues (Which I couldn't fix at all on the VR2600). I believe these to devices have the same specs apart from the modem chips being different (D7800 = lantiq, VR2600 = broadcom) but I also found the wireless range to be a bit better on the D7800, could be due to the bigger antennas. From my testing firmware 1.0.1.16 is not stable on the modem side, I lost sync around 5am and my line was interleaved so I loaded the older 1.0.1.10 my line has been solid as a rock and im back on the fast path!
