Is there any FTTP locator site?
« on: February 20, 2016, 08:16:59 PM »

I was looking around the net and I'm eager to get the next step of fibre technology.

Though FTTC is quite extensively covered, as a lot of people have it, not much is shown about FTTP/H products i.e where they are being deployed.

It just seems to appear randomly when someone types in the dsl checker.

I wonder does anyone have a map or site where the progress of FTTP/H technologies are being deployed?

I'm also surprised why there arent any community websites or groups wanting better broadband for their area. There seems to be all kinds of facebook groups for everything, but Internet Fibre/ADSL stuff. It's odd. I guess people take it for granted.

What test or stats does an exchange have to meet in order to have FTTP ability added to it?

Who makes the choice? Is it Openreach or the council that decides?

I ask as my exchange serves more home and business users than a nearby exchange that is half way going up in to the hills.

I do wonder if some of the reason fibre action is so slow is because there doesnt seem to be the visible will of people to highlight it. It's weird, some subjects us Brits can talk a persons ear off, yet when it comes to something that everyone is becoming increasingly more reliant on, not much is said.

Now you mention it youre right.    Campaigning for DSL broadband (as opposed to dial up) used to be a really big thing.
Same with FTTC there was a lot of interest in it and arequite a few groups trying to get vdsl to certain areas.

I dont know if it is due to the fact that the majority are happy with fttc /want fttc or that fttp may be more than most people want to budget for.
In a similar vein though, you never seem to hear much about any campaigning for cable.   I think Ignition tried to approach VM for his estate, but Ive never really heard about any more from anyone else.

Obviously though there are sites like B4RN/hyperoptic, but nothing specifically BT related that Im aware of.
