Well, I just turned my router off for 32 minutes (so that it was off for 2 DLM monitoring cycles which are 15 minutes long) and nothing changed. I'm a bit shocked and annoyed. But, oh well I only lost 32 minutes of my internet connection to no benefit.

If you turned it off it sent a dying gasp to the DSLAM so DLM knows it's not a fault and does nothing.

So, if it knows it's not a fault why didn't my downstream line rate increase?

Hi

It should not return your line to full speed until it knows your line is stable for a period of time as stated many times

You could actually be delaying this period by your actions now, as it could have received a last gasp or not - you do not know for sure

You are best advised to leave as is, and be patient until the dlam decides it can relax your line

Many thanks

John

Ok, I apologise. I will leave my Billion BiPAC 8800NL router alone.

Ah, you see. That's why I turned the router off for 32 minutes so I wouldn't interfere with DLM. ;)

So why were you shocked and annoyed when nothing changed?

When I mean "interfere with DLM" I mean "interfere negatively with DLM". Sorry.

I don't think there's a way to interfere positively with DLM

Oh, I see. I just remember turning off the router for more than 15 minutes and then turning it back on can help. But, thanks for letting me know. I'll know now for future.

I can't imagine how that would help.

Apparently, if your line rate is low, it can help to refresh the line. Oh, I don't know. I hope this hasn't messed the recovery process up. I could be waiting for weeks at this rate.

With ADSLMax/2/2+ that was the case if your line conditions had improved and DLM was happy. With FTTC, DLM will trigger a resync itself when it wants to de-intervene.

Ah, I must have been reading about ADSL not VDSL!
