I'm impressed that I could get google to translate that! Never mind that you could use it *and* get it past the keyboard, of course....

Hi

Most of the mobile devices have apps or change language keyboard to write input for oriental language, but you need to understand what your drawing (I say drawing because that's how most work, unless there able to take code sequences of words)

Personally I don't know the language sorry, but I do have oriental friends and clients, and sometimes, when reporting an issue over oriental language, I honestly don't have clue, as it can appear to me as oriental but in reality is garbage to someone who can read their language, so kudos to b'cat

If it helps anyone, I can get hold of oriental keyboard for those that want to try, albeit I'm told it's the same uk keyboard, just don't know if their pulling my leg

Many thanks

John

b*cat has a friend of many years standing, t*cat (toracat), who is a Japanese native. If you were to follow the links to some of the other things that I do, further details might be discoverable.

Just as Kitz, our leader here, toracat is also a female computer wizard. (And that fact, I know, will be appreciated by Weaver;)  )

A friend had a user manual for a monitor where it advised that in the event of display problems with reflections the screen should be turned to face the East.

We eventually guessed what it might have been translated from - can you?

In a world of a mostly stay-at-home workforce, there is less understanding of how a keyboard acts as a translation from human language to computerised language. English is easy, and stuff that started out here or the USA can miss out on subtle results.

When I worked in Sweden, I eventually got used to the arcane key-presses to achieve the extra letters in their language. Internationalisation in Java, and the use of character sets & encodings like UTF-8 have helped my perception of other "similar", Latin, languages.

I assumed other western European languages were similar ... until I read a BBC story recently about the shortcomings of the French Azerty keyboard - and how that is starting to impact the use of written French. There, it looks like the accented capitals are falling into more disuse.

I really don't have much handle on the foibles of logographic systems  :(

PS. I always thought b*cat was a unixy wildcard shortcut because no-one knew how to spell it. Toracat is easy by comparison!

. . . that in the event of display problems with reflections the screen should be turned to face the East.

Away from the "setting sun", away from the "window", away from the "light source" . . . Something along those lines.

We guessed 'reorient'!

And I think you would have been correct.  :)

It has been a while since I last considered the Latin words Occident and Orient . . .
