IPad Ipod sent emails not showing
« on: December 11, 2015, 08:32:51 PM »

This is on behalf of Mrs Erinne Dores, who uses either her IPad or IPod to send emails.
We have found that no copy of any sent item is held neither on her machine nor on the family computer. We know mails are sent, because she has sent a test to the hotmail address, which I can view in Thunderbird.

What are we mucking up; ideas, please?

I would hazard a guess (emphasise 'guess') that you may have a mismatch between the configured SMTP server for outgoing mail, and an IMAP server for incoming (syncing of mailboxes).

Or it may just be that the servers do match but password for SMTP is correct and IMAP is wrong, though I'd expect the client to report some connection errors if that were the case.  One worthwhile step would to prove that incoming mail actually works, i.e. send an email to your friend, at the address she's using on the iPad etc, and confirm that she received it and can see it on the iPad?

The actual settings depend upon the mail provider but by way of example, a gmail account might use smtp.gmail.com for outgoing mail, and imap.gmail.com for incoming.

But I emphasise above is just a guess, or at best a hunch.  And I am assuming you are using IMAP, that assumption may be wrong.   Others may have better ideas.   :)

It's not clear to me what she is using to send emails. If she uses a web-based email system, then there won't be any local copies of sent messages. If she uses an email client such as Thunderbird, then there should be an option in the client configuration to save copies of sent messages (or not).

Instructions for setting up plus net mail on iOS...

http://www.plus.net/support/email/setup/ios-setup.shtml

I wonder, is it possible that your friend followed these instructions to the very letter, and omitted to substitute her actual  email address and account for the example text, eg  'yourname@username.plus.com' for her email address
and 'username' for IMAP?

Visit  "I don't know what these are" in the link above, for more info on actual email addresses.
