Good question - from the firmware upgrade instructions page I saw that the LAN/WAN/Wireless MAC addresses all started with 00-1D-19, which apparently is "Arcadyan Technology Corporation"

Never heard of them myself, and it might not be anything to do with the ADSL chipset, but that's all I could find, unfortunately.

If anyone out there has one of these routers they may be able to find out by telnetting into the shell and using the following command

# cat /proc/cpuinfo

If you need help on how to telnet into the shell - just shout and we will advise.

it might not be anything to do with the ADSL chipset,

As it doesn't have an ADSL chipset I'd say you're spot-on there :D

Ahh so its a PPPoE chipset not a PPPoA. That would explain the time outs.

I guess most people would describe it as a cable router as it requires an external modem connected via ethernet - at least that's what the big pictures in the manual say :)

Indeed, that's what the user manual says. "Additionally required - modem".

I would have thought so as well. But the customer had the damm thing running for 16hrs before it went intermittent again. Interesting!

Oh, will we? I read the manual and couldn't see anything.

I guess we could always put "telnet philips caw7740n" into google and see what comes out...

Having said that it's well worth trying to telnet in even if the manual doesn't make any mention of it.

"they may be able to find out by telnetting into the shell"

A lot of manuals dont make any mention - mine certainly doesnt.

But I did spent a lil bit of time a couple of years ago poking around seeing what info you can get from it.
http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/voyager_2100_cli.htm

If you are with an ISP that locks their routers or stops the telnet command with specific firmware then you may have a problem... theres also a couple of routers that dont have telnet access.

Shouldnt take more than a min though to see if you can access the shell or not by using the telnet command
