Little itly bitly trouble

Sorry if this thread is misplaced!

Just now I clicked on a Bit-ly link and it came up with a warning. For my purpose I took a screen shot, and edited the file. Now for some reason my desktop is virtually blotted out and there appears no way to close the page down even with shut down, restart, or deletion/ erasure.

Suggestions, please, how to deal with problem!

It just isn't my week. :'(

Start in safe mode, then run msconfig.exe to un-select any startup items that shouldn't be there.

@Weaver Thanks for that! However late last evening I had a serendipitous moment, aka "it was a fluke" ;D, and went to Control Panel > Personalisation the selected Unsaved Theme. That got rid of the problem.

I've no idea how the intruder made itself into a desktop theme though.
