Major Outage and TITSUP from BT Today
« on: July 29, 2015, 09:24:38 AM »

From El Reg:

BT broadband in broad-based brownout and TITSUP incidents

Outages and slow downloads leave customers cursing carrier from Manchester to Portsmouth

If you can't reach a chum in the UK, chances are they've fallen victim to a substantial outage that's hit BT's voice and broadband services. Or a Total Inability To Support Usual Performance (TITSUP) incident. The carrier appears to be suffering from two issues, the first reported to us by Reg readers Colin and Neil who've complained of very slow downloads, difficulties accessing the Web, dropped packets galore and traceroutes that don't make it past the home gateway.

A glance at the carrier's service status page omits mention of the slow access problem, but does reveal 15 outstanding issues including one that's hitting over 40 communities from Manchester to Newquay.

Estimated restore times for services vary, but Mancunians have been warned that their troubles may persist until Monday, August 3rd.

The outages don't appear to be confined to any particular area or piece of infrastructure: a quick check of BT's list reveals locations in Wales, Northern Ireland, Cornwall, the south coast and inside the M25 all have problems

Any remote possibility that W10 day may have anything to do?

A couple of my machines have downloaded the 3Gb odd of it but didn't notice...  It can stay there for now though  ;)

Completely and utterly off topic but Matt Damon is back next year as Jason Bourne with Greengrass as the producer again... :yay:

I just rang microsoft and the situation goes from bad to worse on my insider pc.

The reason I lost activation on my testing pc was I didnt link it to my microsoft account when I did have it activated, now it is linked but after they banned the insider keys from activating.

They said they will not be releasing any more keys to insiders and they expect future testing builds to be upgraded on already activated machines.

So I guess if i want to test win10 now on my spare pc I now wait for a 90 day evaluation iso or sacrifice one of my technet keys to put win7 on it and then install win10 on top of it.  I think once win10 has been activated on a device then clean installs will be pre activated on the same hardware.

Don't be so sure.
I just did an experiment on my (activated) W10 test system as follows:
1. Extracted the product key
2. Created an installation DVD - W10 Pro x64
3. Ran a clean install wiping the disk and entering the key at the earliest opportunity.

It all installed but won't activate as the key has been withdrawn. (Error 0xc003c004 the key has been blocked.)

Not sure what would happen if you tried to upgrade having first reinstalled W7 or W8.

Fun, fun, fun.   They also have a major problem with eCo since yesterday afternoon which is going to be leaving a lot of ISPs in the dark.
So at a time when there is some major network issues, the ISPs cant even report any faults or see any faults in progress  :eke:

We are currently experiencing difficulties with eCo Plus which may affect your ability to use this application or use some of its features.
Work has commenced to restore service.

BT Wholesale regrets any inconvenience this may cause you and will keep you updated within 2 hours.

Despite several updates saying that they are still working on fixing the problem,  there still hasnt been a clear.

BT: It seems like chaos?

Are BT (successfully) keeping quiet about what ’s behind the rash of problems?

Is this rash of problems with BT Retail, the ISP?

or with BT Wholesale or what?

eCo is wholesale.

Don't know whats causing the slowness/outages issue for EU's though and if it is in any way related to eCo going down.
