HG612 + Synology much slower than Homehub
« on: March 20, 2018, 11:46:24 PM »

Hi,  I have a BT 55/10 FTTC package, and can get 40Mbps download using the homehub supplied.  I'd like to use my Synology Router, so I bought an HG612, and unlocked it using the information on this site.  When I connect using the HG612 and Synology, I get download speeds of 12Mbps.  I plugged the homehub back in, and straight back up to 40Mbps.

Has anyone had a similar issue?  Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the Kitz forum.  :)

Are you using the Huawei HG612 as it was originally intended to be used? I.e. as a modem bridge, just converting the xDSL signal to Ethernet frames and the converse, leaving everything else to the router?

We would really like to know of the synchronisation speed for the G.993.2 link between the modem and the cabinet based DSLAM. When convenient, perhaps you would harvest two sets of data from the HG612 . . . the output returned from an xdslcmd info --stats command and an xdslcmd info --pbParams command. Just paste the output in between a pair of

tags.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm using the HG612 in bridge mode.  The Bridge Type is IP Bridged - not sure if this is correct?  I've included the output from the xdslcmd below - hopefully it can help.

Thanks again,

Neil

I tried the modem connected straight to my laptop, and got 40Mbps, so I did a factory reset on the router, and it's now running at 40Mbps too.  I'll see what happens once I've reconfigured the router!

Thank you for providing those statistics. Nothing out of the "ordinary jumps out at me".

As for how the HG612 is configured, its default mode is correct. If you are uncertain of its configuration, a press and hold for 10 seconds of the reset button will revert any changes back to the default.

You have performed the next obvious experiment by connecting a computer directly to the LAN1 port of the HG612 and establishing a PPP session from the computer. The fact that you can obtain a downstream throughput speed of around 40 Mbps when connected that way is strongly suggesting that the throughput problem is due to the router.

With a two box solution, you will be able to perform any experiments with the router without attracting the (unwanted) attention of the DLM process. (Just leave the HG612 powered up & connected to the xDSL circuit and the DLM process will not take any notice.)
