DrayTek Vigor 130
« on: May 24, 2015, 09:50:04 PM »

I have just become aware of the DrayTek Vigor 130 ADSL/VDSL modem and wonder if anyone has any experience of using one.

Just like the Vigor 120, the Vigor 130 is a pure bridge -- one RJ11/RJ12 socket for the xDSL connection and one RJ45 socket for an Ethernet connection.

So far, I have not been able to determine the chipset used in the Vigor 130.

I think its a Lantiq same as the Fritz 7360 B*CAT

the 120 use infineon
the 120 v2 use ADI
the 130 use Lantiq

Yes, I used one with my Apple router quite happily until my local cabinet was upgraded to G.INP. The 130 supported G.INP DS but not US and consequently suffered the drop in sync speed/increase in latency common with other routers not supporting G.INP.
Draytek support did supply a link to a beta firmware supporting US G.INP for me to try, however this latest issue came after several (not related to the 130) issues with broadband which I didn't feel like perpetuating, so I had already moved over to using a Billion router. Consequently, I can't say whether the 130 does support G.INP which may be worth bearing in mind.

Good to know, thanks :)

Who is ADI? Is this another IFTN derivative...?

Latest firmware supposedly supports G.INP now.

I notice this device is claimed to support 1508 byte MTU/MRU in some forthcoming firmware release! Wonder when that will become a reality.

I take it this can do PPPoA-to-PPPoE bridging? Like their earlier modems in this range.

This might be the device for me if it is a hero on an ultra-long line (63dB DS attn) on plain vanilla ADSL1.

That's exactly what it is; think Vigor 120 but with a VDSL and ADSL capable modem.

@Hibberd - Apol, didn't notice the baby jumbo frames feature in that “New Features” excerpt above. So true 1500 byte MTU/MRU is already released then.

Now I need to find where to get one for a good price so I can give it a try.

If it turns out to be a winner then I have to buy two more as well. Ulp.

I will report back on the ADSL1 performance when I get hold of one of these units, to be tested on my ultra-long line. I won't be in a position to test any of the modern features, VDSL2 and such, as even ADSL2 is still a far-off dream up here.

Just seen this thread and thought I would post a reply as I've been running the Vigor 130 for the last month or more.

The original modem I was supplied was a ECI modem (I'm on a Huawei) which was running with nice low pings and a consistent download speed until G.INP was enabled, after which the ping went up to around 25-30ms and the download speeds dropped off a little.  ECI speed after G.INP http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4330999252

As I didn't wish to buy a Huawei off eBay and run with a hacked firmware but still wanted visibility of stats etc I decided to go with the Vigor 130 having used the 120 for a number of my business connections previously.  I'd already contacted pre-sales who said a G.INP firmware was incoming.

Setup was non-existent I just connected it to my line and hooked my router up to it (after having a look through the web gui), line sync'd with no issues and as expected I got similar speeds to the ECI http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4335668160 (stats page shows interleaving on my line and Retransmission disabled).

Yesterday I updated to the newly released G.INP firmware (3.7.8.1) using the reset option, stats page now shows I'm running on Fast mode with G.INP enabled.  Pings immediately dropped down to 7ms, and sync went upto 71Mb.  http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4442209993

So far all good, no complaints.
