Hi,

Yesterday i bought the TP-Link TD-W8980 and as I have never flashed a router I don't know how to flash it under the W-8970 firmware. I want to flash it as it is to replace my Sky Router as it is not very good in my opinion. Can anyone help me flash it under a open wrt firmware. The current firmware is v1.7

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Im a little confused as to why you would want to flash a TD-W8980 with TD-W8970 firmware as I was under the impression that the TD-W8980 had the better specifications (better wifi)

There are a few on these forums who have flashed the TD-W8980 with TD-W9980 firmware, which in effect turns the router into a vdsl modem/router and theres some posts about that here:-

Crossflash TPlink TD-W8980 to TD-W9980 and TPLink TD-W9980.

As regards to using OpenWrt on the TD-W8980, thats something Ive not tried so I dont know anything about that Im afraid.  zhadoom who posts both on here and on the OpenWrt forums is possibly one of the best people to answer.
