I picked this up in a blog on the freebsd site:

Fraudsters are registering .uk domains which look very similar to genuine well known .co.uk domains, e.g. bbcco.uk.

Thank you for the link. Essentially it is just another scam with the potential for fraud.

Unfortunately yes

...  and even if there is no fraud element, they will still be making money from ads.. so win for them 

Oh well, Nominet no doubt have made a small fortune too as anyone with an active .co.uk / org.uk /me.uk website is more or less obliged to purchase the matching .uk address too.    
I've had to purchase the whole lot, but because of Nominet rules and legal reasons  I cant even point them to the main site, so they just sit there doing nothing.
