Eating Cookies
« on: September 06, 2014, 01:00:15 AM »

This useful 'Add On' for Firefox that eats cookies

Look for 'privacy badger' in 'Add On's'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_Badger

Edit.. I have just noticed it's blocked tracking cookies on this site  :o   >:D

I dont use any tracking cookies.  Not all cookies are malicious and cookies are needed for certain parts of the site to work.    For example the forum or adslchecker just wouldnt work without cookies.

The site policy about cookies can be viewed here
http://www.kitz.co.uk/sites/policy.htm

If there are any its down to google ads - but Ive definitely opted out of any interest based advertising.  Unless its being fooled by the banner ad which uses a 'jump to' script so that if anyone does ever sign up with one of those ISP's then the site will get recognition.    This is something I fair very badly on because most users to this site use Ad blockers and because of mistrust of normal cookies.  Its like the Amazon shop thing Ive never ever received a single penny.  I think tracking cookies are used to identify where the user has come from :(

ETA... from wikipedia

Kif Leswing writing for GigaOM writes that "Privacy Badger’s blacklist is generated through heuristic blocking, which means it gets better the longer it is used", and writes that at present, Privacy Badger "breaks a lot of websites", but considers it important as it is created by a non-profit company, and sums it up as "more than good enough".

...  and an awful lot of non profit websites need advertising to help cover server costs :/

You can opt out of showing ads that are based on user interest and demographic categories (for example, 'sports enthusiasts' or 'inferred age: 18-34'). In turn, Google will not use visitation information from your sites to help create interest and demographic categories. However, you cannot opt out of displaying ads to users based on their previous interactions with the advertiser, such as visits to an advertiser's website.
Please bear in mind that by opting out, you'll decrease the number of ads competing to appear on your website – which may in turn decrease your potential earnings.
