TP-Link TD-W8960N
« on: June 30, 2014, 08:45:46 AM »

Picked one of these up as per the suggestion in the other thread. Cracking lil router, does what it says on the tin!

I have one slight issue and I wonder if anyone else has come across this before. Sometimes, when telnetting to the router, the open and closes the telnet session immediately, without letting you log in. DSL stats is also reporting 'Modem/router failed to respond to telnet request' too.

It's as if it just stops accepting new connections on that port after a while. It does eventually recover, it seems?

If this is a v5 (the one which looks like a blue flying saucer) there seems to be an issue with the telnet interface - it only allows a certain number of telnet logins in a certain time, and then it locks you out for a period. You may be able to get DSLstats to work with it by using a longer sample time, such as 2 minutes.

I replied on another thread http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=14071.30
it could be relevant, maybe.

Thanks for the headsup! It is indeed a V5.

Does DSLstats login fresh with each new poll or does it keep the existing session open and just query the ADSL info?

* rizla is a big fan of TP-Link wireless kit as it does do what it says on the tin and at a price which is hard to ignore :)

I have a TP-Link AP which I used for years. No drama, no fuss, just did everything well. Reminded me of Linksys before the borg bought them ;)

It logs in and out afresh with each sample.

Would it be a huge job to have a switch to 'only log in the first time' or something? :D

Not a huge job in itself, but one which would require a lot of thought and testing, to deal with unexpected occurrences which might disrupt the working of the router (such as orphaned logins).

It is on my list of things to look at, but I don't want to commit myself beyond that.

I seem to have lost the option to backup the config from the WEBUI now too. Possibly as a result of having to edit the config and re-importing to do something else that wasn't doable via the web interface.

Can you show the running config from the CLI on these?

Failing that, can someone paste me the URL to whatever the backup/export screen should be? ta! :D

I'm not using the W8960 at present, but according to the manual it's Management --> Settings --> Export

Yeh, the option has disappeared.
