My modem is Zyxel 8324 and that is what I have selected in HG612 Modem stats. Your best bet is to start a new thread and BE1 will see it and take a look at the error logs. Also just another thought but which OS are you using as Windows 7 had a bug where the task could run twice at the same time? To save taking this thread off topic please start a new thread.

What is the recommended firmware for this device at the moment, so I go straight for the latest 'official' release (13) or is one of the older ones more 'tried, tested and verified as stable'?

Many thanks for your help :-)

Been running v14 (even though not officially recognised) and seems to work fine. Ran v13 as well and didnt see any issues..

Firmware version 14CO is now available from an official ZyXEL site:

Thanks NPR, just compared it to the previous V14, and whilst the size is the same, the file hash's differ

Any changes in modem fw with 14c0? Since after fw 7c0 no fw will hold a stable connection and I get millions of FEC/minute.

Hi

Thanks NPR, just compared it to the previous V14, and whilst the size is the same, the file hash's differ

...and ZyXel have been known on this model to have firmware with the exact same version number, but different depending on where you download it.  I started out with version 7 that just constantly crashed due to a memory problem and then found another version 7 that contained the fix (same size/different hash).

It's actually not a good sign of quality they do this, the whole reason for version numbers is stop exactly this sort of confusion.  Officially we are still on version 1.00 but 14c0, perhaps they think it looks like they have more reliable firmware as it doesn't need updating from version 1.00 and they get it right from day one, if only :D

FW 14 uses broadcom drivers A2pv6F039o1.d26a, IIRC that Broadcom software has been used since FW 8.

FW 7C0 was unstable on my line, with the router restarting every few hours due to a memory error. All FW's from 8C0 have been ok here.

Installed it last night on my  8324 (bridge mode). So far seems ok. Nothing strange has happened so far.

Anyone know where to source the 8924 version in the UK? Seems pretty hard to find one apart from the bay.

I could not find either for sale from any uk sources at the time. One company I spoke with checked with the distributor and said it was 4-6 weeks  till they expected any stock but that was not definite.

I got mine from ebay in the end....

Amazon showing stock at £142 ouch!
