Recommended firmware HG612
« on: April 12, 2014, 11:31:33 PM »

Hi
I've just bought a HG612 not sure what firmware is currently on it as it's not arrived as yet..  All I know is its a 3B.

I'm on BT fibre 75/18 stable

What's the best unlocked firmware to try with this ?
Thanks

^-^ Tom and welcome to the Kitz forum.

Let's assume that when your Huawei HG612 arrives it has not been flashed with any unlocked firmware image. Therefore, depending upon its prior usage, it will either be using the Beattie firmware from before October 2013 or the latest version, remotely pushed around October 2013.

This forum post by Wolfy introduces the unlocked version of the latest Beattie firmware. Currently there are three variations of the latest unlocked firmware image -- unlocked, unlocked & with the GUI restored and unlocked, with the GUI restored & BTagent removed. (The latter two firmware images are in the Experimental directory.)

For now, I would recommend that you use the second out of those three images -- bcm96368MVWG_fs_kernel_HG612V100R001C01B030SP06_unlockedgui from the Experimental directory.

ChipSet Vendor Id:      IFTN:0xb203

I assume this is ECI ? Hopefully it's not an issue with a HG modem and ECI Cab..

[Edit] Sorry, but what I wrote below is wrong.

No, it's an Infineon (IFTN) chipset which means it's a Huawei cabinet. If you know where it is, you can confirm this by looking at it: it looks like this one: http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=13727.0

I may be wrong but I think the ECI has an Infineon IFTN chipset and the Huawei has a Broadcom chipset.

Hmm . . . I'm not at home (so no access to my notes) but I have a tingle in my whiskers which tends to agree with custard:-\

Thanks for the replies.
Been running with the HG612 all day not noticed any issues.

See how it goes tomorrow, when I back working from home.

Although I was given an ECI modem, I ran a HG612 for the most part without any problems.
TBH I prefer BCM chipsets.  Without doubt they always seemed to work best on my line on adsl2+,  which is why I wanted a vdsl router that had a BCM chipset.

These are also useful (case sensitive) commands for stats data:-
