Author Topic: Hacked HG612 DOES support multicast - but how exactly does it work?  (Read 2288 times)

I was curious if anyone here knew exactly how multicast works in the HG612?  By that I mean, where does it actually come into the network.

I was under the impression the HG612 on BT has two networks, the Internet PTM (which is specifically bound to LAN1) and the remote provisioning PTM which is a back-door into the HG612 from BTs private network.

However, it has been suggested by someone using the hacked firmware that IGMP seems to be active on BOTH LAN ports as he had to enable IGMP Snooping or he would get double the traffic going to his router and the IPTV streams would constantly break up.  That would suggest its not coming in over the Internet PTM as that is specifically meant to be bound to LAN1 only.  That makes sense, as surely that is reserved for data going straight over the backhaul to the PPP end-point.  But does that mean its coming in over remote access PTM?

Hi!

Having spent some hours this evening tinkering, I'm also keen to learn any extra information about Multicast on the HG612.

Though admittedly my setup is non standard, since my HG612 is in ADSL mode, and I can't get it to bridge to anything else.

The goal is to get a YouView box to receive multicast content via an HG612 (on ADSL2+); so far my attempts at this have proved fruitless.  [works without problem with TalkTalk supplied HG533 but I have other issues with that device].

*follows thread with interest*
