Printers
« on: January 08, 2008, 01:06:25 PM »

I have a printer that has decided it cannot work anymore as it needs a service!
It is an Epsom Stylus SCX3600 all in one (scanner/copier/printer).
Question how do I bypass this, there must be a way/programme or is it a way to make you buy a new one.
I know these type of printers are cheap (£39.00) but it annoys me that a perfectly adequate piece of eqipment will get binned for this.
I suspect if I tried to get it serviced it would cost me a lot more than the price of a new one.

It may well be true that it needs servicing of course, i.e. it may have a fault. Have you tried removing and re-seating the cartridges and giving it a good thump or two?

I remember reading something about cleaning the ink pad or tray where the cartridges sat, but I don't know which printers it is relevant for.

eg this for the c42 http://ianwillis.co.uk/c42/

If you go to http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml and download the wee utility tool then run it, you can override all sorts of Epson restrictions, and get rid of, as an example, this nagging about needing a service.

As setecio has said, it is probably that the ink pads are full after a bout of head cleaning............on some printers they are easy to take out and wash ( although you are not supposed to do that ), or some they are not and I am not familiar with your machine so don't know if that is possible.

However, run the ssclg tool and I think the problem will go away

Just installed printer again and installed utility and it worked I can now use my  printer/scanner/copier again.

Thanks guys, you saved me a few bob (old money to any youngsters).

Incidentally do you know of one for a HP printer/copier/scanner, my daughter has one and I'm pretty sure it will do the same thing eventually.

Once again thanks for the help.

Glad to see that you are sorted out, Staff.

The printers are cheap, as you say, but you may as well have the £39 in your own pocket as in PC World's ( or who-ever).

Happy printing.
