Puppy Linux is great for reviving an old machine. I have it running on a Compaq m700 365Mhz, 224MB machine and it runs faster than my Vista laptop.

There are quite a few Puplets or derrivatives of Puppy, and coming from Windows, I have found Nearly Office Pup (NOP) to be the most suited to me as a windows users coming to Linux. There is wobbly NOP which uses compiz for 3D windows effects and many other derrivatives.

That's a good suggestion. It's a very modest download for the installation CD, and a nice slimline OS to use on limited hardware.

Yes, it's a great OS and could even be downloaded overnight on dial-up.

I've found the frugal install to hard drive the best for me, which really works like a live CD, but places the image onto the hard drive so that no CD is needed and is much faster than loading a live CD. The GRUB setup took a little adjustment, and can be dual booted with Windows, but once there it works great.
