Internet radio
« on: December 31, 2007, 07:08:50 PM »

I've been tempted by one of these for some time - nothing fancy, just a radio to use in the kitchen, mainly to listen to the cricket on Radio 5 Live. I've got a DAB radio, but reception of the BBC DAB stations is lousy where I live.

So today I succumbed and got a Logic IR100 from Currys for £49.99. It won't win any design prizes, in fact it's an ugly brute, but it works very well. It connected easily to my WPA secured network and I was able quickly to find the stations I wanted and store them on the presets. There are only 5 presets, which would be a bit limiting for many people, but it's enough for me. And it even proved easy to upgrade the firmware too. So I'm well satisfied.

I was tempted by one of those, on offer in Lidl or Aldi, but then I remembered I only ever listen to R4 so what's the point in having something that can get thousands of stations? Maybe I need to get out more, radio-wise!

I just invested in this little beastie: http://tinyurl.com/3x9kaj - the strange thing was I saved myself a fiver by reserving it online and collecting instore, maybe worth bearing in mind for future shopping at Curry's. :)

And for the price it isn't half bad, CD/Cassette/DAB/FM/USB all for £55.

P.S. the current Argos price is £99.99: http://tinyurl.com/34zy5u

Floydy,
Just looked at the link to the one you bought and in the spec it says
'Remote control'...No     Yet the pictures show one.  ???
Did you get one with it ?
If so, Currys need a web site editor or proof reader.

Yes, the online description on the Curry's site is grossly inaccurate.  I did point this out to the sales girl.
