It's worth noting, just because we don't have access to the stats in UI doesn't mean we can't extract more.

It's likely the HH5A will eventually be cracked and be able to run OpenWrt or at least be hacked to provide access to all the stats available.

My upstairs line was upgraded to Infinity 2 today. The engineer recognised the HH5 and setup using it rather than a ECI /r.

I swapped it for the HG612 after he left and it performed similarly to the HH5. The speed was 79499/20000 on the HH5 and 79752/20000 on the HG612 and the max was ~81000/26000 on both.

I think if i get a HH5 i'll use it rather than the HG612/ECI just because it uses one less power socket, would be interested to see the Amps rated on the HH5 PSU the HG612 has a rating of 1 Amp -> watts = 1A × 12V = 12W

The PSU is labelled 12V 1500mA.

While booting the HH5 was using ~3W and once fully booted it idles around ~5.4W. I did a TBB Speed Test using wireless and it peaked at 6.5W.

I'm not using the HH5's built in modem though, I have it connected to a HG612.

I have just completed my first installation using a HH5 and all went well apart from a loose feel to the RJ11 socket (what I mean is the RJ11 plug when inserted did not "feel right") and at first it looked like the HH5 was duff.

I managed to get the hook of a Krone tool underneath  the contacts of the socket and bend them up a bit. All was then well.

Apparently this is common with the 5, so if you get one and it will not sync, check the socket.

Looking at the photos, the RJ11 contacts do look a little low.

I am wondering if its cables been built cheaply.

I have had 3 different lan cables now where the ends dont click in right to ethernet sockets, one of the occasions caused a gigabit NIC connect to a gigabit router at 100mbit.  This has happened on commercial and isp based routers which is why I think it could be down to cheap cables.

Hi James

Any chance you could re-post the images linked in your posts again as they can no-longer accessed.

After closer inspection, I see that just to the left of the main proc and to the right of the left-most wifi chip, there's a little 6 pin job there just above a filter/coil.

That's probably where you can get some TTL loving from it :D

b*cat peers at James' original photograph of the PCB and fails to see what you see . . .

Reduced size screen-scrapes are below. Am I looking in the right area?

Thank you.  :)

It is purely academic, for I do not possess a HH5. (Cats are naturally curious, of course.)  ::)

Thats okay :) It might not even be a serial/TTL connection but more than often when you see a stray chip with so few pins it's serves one of three purposes.

1) USB Controller
2) Serial/TTL buffer (chip that cleans up all the voltages for communications with external devices)
3) General power regulator/buffer (chip that cleans up, steps up or down the voltage a bit to get juice from a battery)

In the HH5 case, I believe that the USB is directly rigged to the main chip, so it's probably TTL :-/

*shrug*

I might bother to get one when I'm bored of getting loads of free devices from all over the show :D

I see that Sailer has posted a photograph at the http://openwrt.ebilan.co.uk/ site. :clap2:

I am hoping that the attachment a section of the photograph, below, will be permitted?
