Traffic routing on FTTC
« on: June 25, 2013, 08:47:45 PM »

I mentioned in the 'go live thread' that I will be getting FTTC soon at home and at work and on the same exchange.
I'm curious to know how the routing of traffic happens?
IE: If I establish a VPN to work from home, will the traffic just route through the exchange kit, or will it pass around the BT network too?

A good question.

I would assume (er, hope) that there is sufficient intelligence to route 'home - exchange - work'.  :-\

(After all, that is how a telephone call between those two locations would be routed.)

Highly unlikely. The traffic will inevitably have to be routed via the backbone of your ISP, who is which in each location?

Ah, yes. b*cat has typed a folly, above, which should now be ignored.  :-[

I was only thinking as far as the FTTC product being provided (at hardware level) by Openreach.

Services are PlusNet at home and BT Business at work.

I suppose it would be to easy to make it a direct connection, after all, how would GCHQ be able to monitor a remote desktop connection?  :police:

Ha they won't stop them, they have digital signatures for all encrypted files and connections.
