Infinity seems to drop about 12am every tuesday
« on: October 30, 2012, 02:03:28 PM »

I had infinity installed on the 24th of September and up until last week it was running fine.

Now it seems to drop connection at between 12am and 1am on a tuesday morning,

a power cycle of the modem seems to fix it and the DLM doesnt seem to have changed speeds but its somewhat annoying.

Any advice on how to sort it,   Im running wired to a BT Homehub

Hi Verkosh,

This could well be a horrible but usual type of the DREADED REIN. Have a look for anything suspicious around you.

Kind regards,
Walter

It would be interesting to know what is the status of the green LEDs on the modem, just before you perform the power-cycle sequence.

I am wondering if the modem has lost sync with the cabinet DSLAM or if the router has lost the PPPoE session with the remote server. If the first three LEDs on the modem are all showing solid green, you may find that pressing the reset button on the back of the router (the BT HH) will re-establish a PPPoE session, thus proving the problem to be loss of PPPoE session and not the loss of modem/DSLAM sync.  :-\

Last tuesday they were solid green and restarting the router fixed it.

When it did it today it lost sync.

But it hasnt seem to drop speed to DLM.

I'll keep monitoring it.

 :hmm: Hmm . . . Rather peculiar.

I think it may prove necessary to use an unlocked Huawei HG612 modem and Bald_Eagle1's monitoring software, so as to discover exactly what is taking place.

My suspicions are a ROUTER issue rather than a MODEM issue.

In every single case I have looked at where the MODEM has lost sync, it usually resyncs very quickly with no human intervention.

On the rare occasion that the MODEM hasn't automatically resynced, a MODEM reboot does NOT fix anything, the fault being on BT's side of the modem i.e. an external cabling or (accidental) engineer's physical disconnection either at the cabinet or somewhere along the route from the cabinet to the home.

We have previously read of some BT HomeHubs needing to be disconnected/reconnected. It may just be that one of these "faulty" hubs has been provided & needs replacement.

A MODEM reboot will ALWAYS refresh the ROUTER'S PPP session, but as mentioned by B*cat, it isn't always necessary to reboot the MODEM itself.

A monitored unlocked Huawei HG612 modem is probably going to be the best way of actually seeing/recording what is actually going on.
It may actually identify a specific issue that can be reported as a "fault".
