Author Topic: Interesting observation re: disabling QoS on the HG612 (BT Infinity)  (Read 7133 times)

If you run BT WiFi-FON and BT WiFi on your HG612 and you have turned off QoS then be aware of something I noticed on my setup (YMMV)

On a standard BT WiFi-FON node, I've conducted speed tests and have found that these days they are mostly limited to 3mb/0.5mb. It used to be 512mb download so it's an improvement.

However, since I disabled QoS, the upload hits maximum which was about 10mb last night. The download remained limited to 3mb.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm tempted to restore QoS just in case, but unfortunately I didn't note down the configuration details as I mistakenly thought it would still be saved. Oops.

Methinks that reference to the HG612 should be replaced with one to the BT HH3.0 ?  ::)

The simplest way to recover the QoS configuration is to revert to the default (Asbo) firmware by a push of the Reset button and then go in and make your "adjustments".  ;)

I disabled QoS to try it out but seen no difference so I enabled it again, Do I need to reset the HG612 to ?

@NS,

I think we are all discussing things with crossed trains of thought.  ???

I understand that CS deleted the QoS configurations from within his HG612, hence my suggestion to reset it (the HG612) back to its (Asbo) default to recover those settings.

From what you have just posted, I gather that there are QoS settings that can be modified within the HH3.0. If that is the case then no, there is no need for you to re-set your HG612:)

Thanks burakkucat, it is getting confusing here, the HH3.0 does not have QoS settings that I can see, only the HG612 has those settings, all I did was disable QoS on the HG612 did a speed test and saw no difference so I enabled QoS again, and did not change any settings within HG612 QoS

Disabling QoS gave me a 1-2mb upload boost. YMMV.

And yes, I did mean BT WiFI/FON on the Home Hub 3.0 type A!

I'll probably restore the firmware once the "10 day training period" is over with the change over to Infinity 2, as it is no better than Infinity 1 at the moment... but that's another thread...

Great. Clarity prevails.

@NS -- There's no need for you to do a HG612 reset, as you have only performed a disable, test, re-enable sequence. CS disabled and then deleted the rules . . . a totally different "kettle of fish".  ;)

I'm actually all for clarity, I let standards slip due to excessive alcohol in the system  ;)

I didn't deliberately delete the QoS configuration.. all I did was to untick it. When I re-enabled it last night I couldn't access the internet, so I quickly re-enabled it. Hey ho!

Ok I think it's all sorted  ;D Alcohol related confusion , had a few of those system failures nowadays I use it to clean the thermal paste off CPU & heatsink  ;)
