Rebooting your router
« on: November 20, 2007, 11:05:50 AM »

I read that if you reboot your router too often in a day it can lower your profile.

If I switch off my router and wait an hour and then switch back on would that be OK ?   I want to try and sync at a higher speed as I have lots of spare noise margin at the moment.
It's 15db down and 7db up.

I know it's supposed to go down eventually and if I then reboot I should sync higher but I'd like a higher sync without waiting a few weeks.

Or should I switch off at night and then on next day at mabye 10am.

Overnight switch off would be the safest bet.

It's not really that sensitive. You need to lose sync several times in an hour to trigger an increase in your target noise margin.

I seem to find if I switch on the router and after five mins uplug the microfilter  from the master socket wait a minute and put it back in I get a higher sync.   But I'm wary of doing it more than once.

Yes, it's probably as well to be wary. To be honest, I rather doubt that the success of that method is anything more than coincidence. :)

I have a Belkin cable router, if I unplugged it for two months would it find its settings again?  or would I have to install it again

It would keep its settings for as long as you like.
