Indeed it does.  :hmm:

The finished device will be sold in two configurations. A Model A for $25 (£16) which lacks a network connector and a Model B for $35 (£22) which does have an Ethernet socket.

I'll be willing to pay £22 for a Model B with an Ethernet socket.  :)

Never mind grandson - I think I'll buy one for myself!  Seems a superb sandbox environment for Linux jobbies.  Wonder if I could build a jukebox around one?

Extremely interesting, I'd not heard of it.  A quick google has found some tech specs here

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/11/28/raspberry_pi/

It certainly looks capable if it lives up to spec....  Audio, TV and HDMI interfaces (claiming 1080p Blu-ray) with hardware graphics accelerator.

Sceptically, I suspect there'll be a few 'ifs & buts' when it comes to doing all that with a 700MHz ARM and 256MB ram.  But the challenge should be part of the fun, and applications like jukebox should certainly be well within scope.

If it really can do 1080p properly, then I wonder if I'll be able to think of an excuse for building a couple more mythtv front ends next year...?   :-\

Choose one only out of "all that" and if it can do it properly, then it will be a very good investment / plaything.

Totally agree, didn't mean to suggest otherwise.  :)

Purrfect. I hope it did not seem as if I was questioning your statement.  ;)

It gets more tempting the more I look at it.

See the faq, at http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs

I like the fact it has it's own on-board switch-mode PSUs, so it should be possible to run it, for a couple of hours at least, from something like AA batteries and no more additional hardware beyond the battery clips themselves.

Personally, rather than traditional 'screen & keyboard' systems, I'm thinking more along the possibilities of 'headless' hand-held toys & gadgets, with remote access capability (eg telnet) when a need arises to look inside.    I've messed around in that area in the past with PIC Microcontrollers, but there's a limit to what can be done DIY these days, without access to surface-mount soldering technology and multi-layer PCB prototyping facilities (& costs).  This device would seem to overcome that hurdle.

Hmmm, even if none of these dreams come to fruition, once again I'll thank Mike for drawing this to our attention.   So many ideas... :clap2:

It does, I could make a very very small Hardware firewall  ;).

This seems fantastic and I hope this really does take off.
They seem to have some very clever people behind this..  and I notice even someone from broadcom
Good luck to them.

btw.... I absolutely love the name Raspberry Pi...  theres several clever connotations in it.  :D

I'm hoping to be able to put my favourite OS - Slackware - on it. Slackware already supports ARM.
http://alien.slackbook.org/blog/raspberry-pi-deserves-slackware/

I think it would be a neat and cheap way to run my own little webserver + 24/7 ADSL modem monitoring + a weather station.

Cheers,
Peter

Wow.  Excellent as the Pi may be, I think if I had £3000 burning a hole in my pocket, I may have been able to find something even better.    :)
