Who did you fancy when you were 14 years old?

It has to be a celeb of the time.

For me it was Claire Grogan. Who you ask? Gregory's Girl - or Altered Images if that rings bells.

A bit later (18 or so) on it was Sharleen Spiteri (Texas before they got famous) but then again I did sort of know her at the time. She wouldn't have looked twice at me though :(

Embarrassing or what?

Go on then peeps, who did it for you (and maybe still does)?

Well I bet I know who Floydoid will say  ;)

For me, well, there was Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (and yes I'd still be tempted now) and that chap in Bless This House - and no not Sid James!!  He obviously made a lasting impression because I can't remember his name now  :-[

Don't start!

There will be a second ballot so I've not given up hope yet - but divide 20,000 by 1,000,000 and tell me the odds.

On second thoughts, don't  :-X  :'(

Not sure about anything else but we seem to have reasonable musical taste (not entirely convinced by Helen Shapiro though :P )

Well, I'm definitely too old to be a groupie  :D

I was talking about the one-off reunion charity concert on 26 November and the furore sparked by Harvey Goldsmiths effors to stop tickets being sold on eBay.

But hey, it's not all bad, I booked tickets for Jethro Tull yesterday

I was in love with Brenda Lee. "Rockin' around the Christmas tree" really sent shivers up my spine. There was a picture of bluebells in a wood on the wall of our front room, and I used to imagine walking through that wood hand in hand with her. :-[

Let me tell you songs from the wood... to make you feel much better....*

Nice one. They are music from a time I shouldn't have been interested in but I was.

As an aside do you all (regardless of age) find it easier to keep up with music these days? I have to say I don't - I get drowned in media now and frankly little of it now makes an impact on me. I suspect our kids deal better with it than me but I'm not sure.

*one of my favourite albums - yes vinyl - ever

PS - little bit "tipsy" just now so forgive typos and thread derailments :)

Do you know I can't honestly remember who I fancied at 14... I didn't discover Curved Air till I was 15.

I don't make huge efforts to keep up with modern stuff - Radio 2, despite its (IMO) fuddy-duddy image, plays enough from the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Radiohead, Snow Patrol etc as they are released, I watch Kerrang! when I can at the weekends which keeps me up with the heavier rock, I get the occasional prod on Myspace from new/unsigned bands and if they list sensible artists as their influences I'll give them a listen and add them to my friends list, plus I am on various forums where music is a common topic (or game!) and have made some good (again IMO) discoveries I would otherwise have missed.

I know that someone will come along and say 'Steve Wright/Chris Evans' in response to 'fuddy-duddy'- but IMO they should both still be on Radio 1 with the kids  (and besides, I like fuddy-duddy  :P)

Must admit, I can empathise more with the "turn that rubbish off, call that music" which was a common phrase when I was 14  8)
