Title: Draconian policy
Post by: Weaver on January 29, 2018, 10:18:11 PM
Think what might have happened if the government had passed a law ten years ago banning FTTC / G.Fast, and anything faster over copper. It's an interesting thought.

Agrees with Black Sheep. And how many people would have paid for faster access than a couple of megabits per second?

Not many, Weaver ...... folk are fickle, they want it .... but they want it for free. I count myself in the same demo-graph.  ;) ;D

Agreed. NetFlix wouldn't be happy, they wouldn't have a business presumably, or people would have to put up with some vile quality while waiting for very powerful new maths to deliver even more compression. Netflix need some good lobbyists to get public money wasted on cheap internet access.

I'm fairly sure that around here a lot of people have not paid for FTTC now, either because they've got no money (they haven't), or are too tight or too stingy. In fact very often all three.

My sister said she couldn't tell the difference when she went from 49k + 0% - 100% - 300% compression with Demon dialup and MPPC to ADSL 0.5 Mbps. But it was half the price, as no £45 per month charge to BT for unmetered phone line time with the old SurfAnyTime deal, plus £11 pm line rental.

Amply evident in many more serious matters too e.g. ...x..t.
The sensible realise that's not on.
