are SLC flash cards good?

compared to what?

SLC is considered superior to both MLC and TLC, it should have faster performance and better endurance.  However it costs a lot more, essentially the cells are larger, so you get less capacity on a physical area vs MLC and TLC.

But we now also have 3D nand types which has complicated it somewhat, e.g. its now considered 3D MLC can have as good endurance as planar SLC.

Samsung evo sdcards used to have really bad write performance, then they released a new generation last year with the same sounding name but plus was written as a + instead of plus (or vice versa cannot remember which), and the write performance sky rocketed to match their premium cards, my theory is these new evo sdcards started using 3D nand instead of planar nand to get the performance boost.

Short answer is I would treat SLC flash cards as good, but try to always look at detailed specs of the product before deciding. such as read/write speeds, rated endurance etc.

Many thanks to Chrys.

I have seen some SLC cards that have horrendous prices and small capacities. I was wondering about their reliability.
