Title: New Openreach FTTP ONT
Post by: kitz on January 09, 2018, 11:44:49 PM
From my mail box.

Openreach are now installing a new all-in-one ONT with combined battery back up unit.   They look much neater than the old style separate units. :)

Thank you to reader bclark for kindly sharing this photo he took of the new units which were introduced late Dec 2017.

Look forward to seeing one under the stairs, where Harry Potter will reside, when we move next year  :)

I've been trying to do some digging re what's inside but have drawn a blank so far  :/
It appears to be some sort of casing which is slightly larger than the old style ONT, which when opened up contains a mini ONT and BBU each in their own plastic case.

The new unit doesn't belong to the person who sent the photo but at another premise he was visiting. (He has the more familiar separate units).
Apparently the EU was told Openreach only started installing these new units from the 18th Dec 2017.

It's described as the 1+1 ONT in BT SIN 506 v1.5. The older two box installation is now described as the 4+2 ONT because it has 4 LAN ports and 2 voice ports, the new 1+1 ONT has 1 LAN port and 1 voice port.

Cheers, I'd been rummaging around the Openreach site and didnt think to check if there was a new SIN on SINET.
Been trying to see if I can identify the ONT inside the casing, but it doesnt quite look like anything I could see on the Huawei website.   I was looking for something that had 5 LEDs on the case and only one LAN interface.

I'd guess the HG8110H based on the 1 Ethernet and 1 voice port. The case design, and having a BT phone socket rather than RJ11, must be customisations for BT.

Yes a certain black cat also had a suspicion that it may be a re-badged HG8110

[Edited by a certain kuro neko to remove an extra digit "1" that had appeared in the above.]

The PDF factsheet about the new ONT on this news article contains a link to a Huawei manual for the new ONT:

EchoLife HG8110H-20 GPON Terminal according to the manual.
