Post by: waltergmw on July 04, 2017, 09:31:25 AM
Gentlefolk,

This should be very good news for the broadband-impoverished in Norfolk etc.

Kind regards,

Excellent news

Quote
and is expanding into Suffolk and Norfolk.

Since that covers quite a large area, do you have any more info which particular locales they are looking to enter?

Hi Kitz,

Extracts from:-

http://www.b4rnorfolk.org.uk/products-services/coverage-area

B4RN’s CEO, Professor Barry Forde MBE, explained, “The communities in East Anglia are raising the money and doing the work and B4RN is fully committed to providing the technical and operational support and assistance to make it happen. As part of this, B4RN is extending its core network from Telehouse North in London's Docklands (where B4RN has an existing node) some 218Km through East Anglia, along the A143 to Lowestoft, so that the parishes in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex can be connected. We are firmly convinced of the technical and operational abilities of Michael’s team, their resources and that they have significant support from local communities.”

From the coverage area page:-

.....   B4RN can potentially provide its network to any parish in Norfolk, North and West Suffolk, South East Cambridgeshire and West Essex if there is sufficient support from the local residents.

Please also see my e-mail to you.

Kind regards,
Walter

Hello Walter, hope you are well.
Good for 'B4RN + B4RNorfolk'  :)

If you remember I looked into getting our Derbyshire village to join there network a few years ago but did not sufficient support from the local residents.
I can see it being rolled out into most of the country on day.

Hello again TickMike,

I am thriving thanks and to yours also ?

There have been a number of smaller additions so there would be no harm e-mailing  info@b4rn.org.uk and asking the question.

Kind regards,
Walter

b*cat wonders if B4RNorfolk would supply a full-fibre link to "The Cattery"?  :hmm:  ;)

@ burakkucat

Many things are possible given money and time but I wouldn't suggest it would be this year !

Kind regards,
Walter

Thank you for that map, Walter. I see the fibre passes to the south of the town, whilst "The Cattery" is located to the north thereof.

Distance (almost) no object ! Just get a small group, plan where you want to go and start collecting shareholders ! If you look at the B4RN area coverage in the main article you'll see just how far they've stretched in a very short time in far more challenging terrain too !

Kind regards,
Walter

As much as I would like to do so, the environment is very challenging. There is the River Lark, a mineral extraction site, British Sugar's BSE factory and some major roads to negotiate.

I think I will be able to cope with my current service for the foreseeable future . . . and I will only become interested when Beattie Bellman installs a pole top G.9700/G.9701 DP within my view from "The Cattery".

Any chance of the map of the cable route for the A143 / B1063 area, or does it just follow the A143?
If so, which side of the road is it?

Thank you
James
