Title: Mechanically broken key on iPad virtual keyboard?
Post by: sevenlayermuddle on March 15, 2017, 11:25:48 PM
This afternoon, I was trying to type the word 'volvo' into a google search box in Safari.  It echoed 'olo'.  Obviously fat finger syndrome, I was missing the target button, so I tried again.   Same result.   No matter how careful I was, when I tapped 'v' the virtual key button containing 'v' flashed in acknowledgment, but nothing was enterred in the text box. ???

I fixed it by forcibly unloading and reopening safari, after which normal operation was resumed. So it was a software bug, probably with roots in memory shortage as mine's an old iPad 2.   But it amused me that a virtual keyboard could have what appeared for all the world to be a mechanical fault. :D

Sometimes I find that I can't hit enter in Safari on my iPad Pro, I fixed it by either hitting refresh or by hitting the keyboard-microphone-icon twice.

Just last week I reported a bug in the Opera browser. They have a feature called speed dial which is enhanced bookmarking. The bug is seen when editing an existing URL by hand. If you type the letter “f” it jumps out of the edit box into a search box and so I was unable to make the change I wanted.

I was rather pleased with summary line I submitted: No f in edit speed dial.
