I used to use it, and I thought I still did, but it seems I didn't actually install it when I switched to Pale Moon as my browser. I've done so now. It never gave me any problems before, and worked as described.

How does it work?

I'm stuffed unfortunately as I use Safari as I am on my iPad all the time.

it redirects http to https on domains that are in the database as known to support https.

As far as I understand, it uses a lookup table of known HTTPS sites. The table is in XML format, and their website describes how to add to this table.
