Title: Cheap 8-Core Xeon E5-2670s
Post by: phi2008 on March 18, 2016, 10:14:19 AM
Recently picked up a couple of these, new, from the following buyer - http://www.ebay.com/itm/151964337392 . On sale for $63 plus $18 shipping and customs charges(about £56). In performance they're equivalent to a 4 GHz AMD FX-8350 (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-E5-2670-vs-AMD-FX-8350) - but the AMD FX-8350 retails for £140 - so quite a price difference. Of course you'll need a socket 2011 motherboard ... and if you're lucky enough to locate a dual CPU board you can have the equivalent power of two FX-8350s, £280, for an outlay of £112.  :)

Perhaps I should have added this to the original post - a long thread on people building systems with the cheap Xeons, links to deals on motherboards(e.g. dual CPU) etc.  :)
