Okay, didn't really know where to put this.

I'm having SKy HD installed soon, and moving the Sky + box from downstairs into a room where there is no telephone line.  I've been having a lot of problems over the last few months with my internet but it seems steady at the moment.

What i'm wondering is could fitting a new phone line affect the internet?  The problem before was the DSL light dropping out frequently (every 5 minutes) but recently it's been okay.  How easy is it to fit a new phone line from another room?

I'm just worried it will affect the internet disconnecting it and adding a new line?  As you've probably guessed i'm not the most technological person  laugh

Good day.

Is that what you mean? £200 or so paid to BT plus monthly rental.

Or did you mean an extension socket to your existing line?

Well, it's easy, but it's also easy to get wrong, especially with broadband involved.
You did say: "i'm not the most technological person "  Lips Sealed

Sky installers will often put the relevant extension wiring in, and they're renowned for getting it wrong too.  Shocked

What can they possibly do wrong?

How can it go wrong?

Isn't it just a case of putting the line in the back of the SKy box, then trailing it to a socket (downstairs) adding the filter thing and plugging it in there along with the actual phone line?

You could do that and, chances are, it will make your broadband worse.  Huh?

See this for starters: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

Sorry, my connection is fine at the moment.  I'm just worried they'll somehow mess up with the new line?  I wouldn't of imagine it would have been a difficult procedure, but my luck is 0 and everything usually goes wrong for me.  Sad

What 'SHOULD' the engineer do?.  I'll give you an idea whats where.  My main phone line is downstairs in the living room.  Upstairs i have my router in the spare bedroom where there is another phone line.  This is where the router is plugged into and Sky in my room.

The new SKy+ box is being fitted in another bedroom upstairs and will obviously need to go into a phone line?  I presumed it would be as simple as plugging the phone line into the back of the box, trailing it to one of the sockets (upstairs or down) and plugging it in using one of the filters where you can connect 3 things into.

Because either eitherup or down there will need to be a phone line, sky line and router.

I take it i'm wrong and it's far more complicated?
