ADSL2+ or not?

Hi, wondered if anybody could have a look at my line stats and tell me if there is any apparent reason why i can't get ADSL2+ (i'm assuming that i'm not at the moment) my exchange was enabled last March ( Boston exchange ). My router is connected via an extension from a BT NTE5 master socket, the ring wire has been removed. What does 'G.992.1 annex A' denote?

Your package is adsl 8 max . your exchange may have been upgraded but until you ask your ISP you will stay on this package . It is not an automatic process.

The speed checker on BT Total Broadband website tells me i can only get a download speed of 4.0meg. My conection rate is considerably higher 7.0meg+, although my IPProfile is currently set at 4.5meg. From reading other threads it seems my SNR margin is high. Just trying to get to the bottom of why i can't get the better service.

The BT speed estimator isn't definitive, it's just an estimate, and often errs on the conservative side. But if you do have a raised target noise margin then it would probably be best to resolve this before upgrading, as it may indicate an unstable connection.

All a bit frustrating as the line attenuation isn't half bad. would these problems with snr be relevent to fibre optic systems.

If you're talking about fibre-to-the-cabinet you still have copper or aluminium twisted pairs from the cabinet to your house so potentially there is still the possibility of noise.

If you mean fibre-to-the-home, then fibre is not affected in any way by radio frequency interference. However fibre has its own problems if mishandled.
It is a pair of very thin solid glass strands (E.g. 62.5 thousandths of a mm in diameter) so is fragile and can be cracked or broken. Should any damage occur the throughput will reduce or fail completly.

That is the reason many fibre cable systems use extensive methods to protect the fibre.

That is the max you can connect with interleave switched on. unless
this applies

I realise these results are correct for the package i'm currently on, my issue is that bt won't put me onto their 20mb package. i suspect this is due to the instability of my line and not the length of the line to the exchange. i have been running routerstats all afternoon, my router has resynced once and there have been several blips on noise margin, down to to zero. all a bit frustrating as line attenuation would suggest i'm relatively close to my exchange. My exchange has been 21cn wbc enabled.

Have you tried changing the modulation type to ADSL 2+ 992.5?

Could be you are on a 21CN enabled line but have not switched it on yet. Otherwise could be that BT have not yet migrated you. If this is the case then you should call them and ask them to migrate you to 21CN.
