Hi
just found this on ThinkBroadband forum .
http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/tbbmeter/f/3639413-constant-uploading.html

Apparently "Free Download Manager" was continuously Uploading data

quote
It constanly shows upload speeds of up to 2Mbps but download speeds of only a few tens of Kbps

Today Down shows 43.1MB
Today Up shows 670.13MB
Monthly Usage shows 28758.8MB

When "Free Download Manager" was uninstalled problem was sorted .

Regards Jeff

Nice find Jeff.

Can I just suggest to anyone concerned they read all of the posts from Jeffs' link and take note with regards to disabling the program prior to uninstalling it.
There's not that many.

So I wasn't wrong when I decided to uninstall FDM !!! I had an inkling that this program was doing something fishy but I wasn;t sure as I downloaded it from Cnet's download.com and they normally wouldn't host malicious (?) programs. Actually I was looking for a download manager for rapidshare (premium account), and someone suggested FDM to me. Good that I got rid of it.

Jeff, can you suggest any rapidshare download manager to me? I have a premium account and would like to copy the links into download manager without actually handling each link individually.

Hi nomeames

Rapidshare have their own download manager, I haven`t used it, yet.
http://rapidshare.com/rsm.html

I use Reget deluxe.
If you are using Firefox, you could try one of the add-on D/L managers, I`m sure there are some specifically for the task.

I have used Net Transport for years and it integrates well with Firefox  add-on Flashgot.

I have used Free Download Manager for a long time and have never found a problem with it.

FDM supports BitTorrent, so the person on TBB might have downloaded a torrent which FDM may simply be seeding? I've also asked this question in the linked thread on TBB.

I personally wouldn't panic and uninstall it based on one isolated issue that probably has a rational explanation. It just seems a little odd. Like I say, in my experience it's never caused me any problems at all!
