Unable to login to Billion 800NL router
« on: April 28, 2017, 10:13:06 AM »

this is an odd one
Suddenly dslstats reported that it couldn't get data and checking I couldn't login either - all I got was "waiting for etc."
But the internet is working fine
Now I can probably sort it by rebooting the router but I thought I would raise it here first to see if there is a known reason for this
Just noticed this which started when the problem occurred

I don't know the answer, but a couple of questions occur:

- is it an 8800NL v1 or v2?
- can you still login to the GUI using a browser?

decided to reboot the router and problem fixed
it looks as though I will need to upgrade the firmware to 8800NL 2.32e firmware
Quote
22. Fixed   SNMP   memory   leakage   issue.
however as I would need to return the router to default setting I think I won't as it would mean setting up the guest network etc again

Checking -
I can backup the config
Restore to default
Upgrade
Restore saved config

Is there any reason why this won't work

Ah yes, memory leakage sounds a very plausible explanation.

Perhaps you could save the current configuration and reload it after the firmware upgrade? It might be worth consulting the Billion forum (if you haven't already) http://forum.billion.uk.com/ .

I don't find Billion that clear at times, so Jim, do you happen to know what the v1's latest firmware is for ADSL?

@oldjim: Backing up and restoring the configuration should normally work, unless there's been some large change in the firmware making significant changes to the configuration.

oldjim there should be an option to not wipe you config so when you update the firmware all settings are intact.

there is but the upgrade procedure recommends restoring to default settings although I suppose doing it with the present settings then reverting to default if things go wrong would be an option

The above info is for the 8800AXL Firmware 2.32e.dh4 not for the 8800NL

I have done the process 3 times preserving config and was fine for me, I think you will be fine.
