HG612 - Problem Updating Firmware [New H-Wolf version]
« on: September 21, 2016, 01:10:39 PM »

[Moderator note -- This post and all replies have been split off to create a separate thread.]

Hi Guys, I need some help please.
I just got an HG612 to try on my VDSL line. It came new with default firmware to I first need to unlock it.
I downloaded and flashed the SP08_webgui file and flashed it successfully and got access to the web GUI OK.
I deleted the TR-069 wan interface to stop the BT update process and enabled LAN2 on the main wan interface.
However, as I was going through the settings it stopped responding and I could no longer access the web GUI. I also couldn't/can't telnet into it.
I tried a reflash of the webgui firmware but that didn't work. I then tried to flash the SP08_original firmware to get back to a start point but realised I have no way of knowing if it's working as it's not connected to my line as yet.
Re flashed SP08_webgui but still not able to access the GUI.
Have I bricked it already?  :'(
Is there any way I can get back to the full default settings so I can start again? Preferably without having to put it online.

Thanks for any guidance.
Regards
Clive

There's no need to delete TR-069 with the _webgui firmware

Did you change the IP address of the modem on your LAN?

Do you have another device on your LAN with the same IP address?

Hi Dray, thanks for coming back so quickly. Didn't realise I don't need to delete the tr069.
As for the other two questions. It's no in both cases. I only have the modem connected to a laptop on ours own.
As I say it worked until I started messing with the config.

Can you confirm the IP address and the netmask for the laptop?

Just had to pop out but will check as soon as I get back. I set it up as per our guide on kitz 192.168.1.100 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 from memory.
Question: Does the firmware flash include all the settings? I.e. will it go back to "factory" settings when I flash the wegui file?

No probs. Please ensure the IP address on the laptop hasn't been lost by opening a CMD prompt and doing IPCONFIG /ALL if on windows.

Ensure you have no AV or firewall active also

The long reset by holding in the reset button on the HG612 for 10+ seconds should return it to default settings so you can try the flashing procedure again.

OK, just done a long reset, is there any way I can tell this has been successful as I can only get to the firmware upload page from there which I can do anyway.
So, I flashed the webgui firmware which seems to go OK but I still can't get to the web GUI.
To be clear:
I have a laptop connected to LAN2 with no other network or WiFi connected.
IP: 192.168.1.100
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
I can get to the firmware upgrade page no problem (hold reset for 5 seconds while powering on).
The firmware flash seems to go OK but unable to access web GUI after that. I'm following the guide on kitz here

I had similar problems on my desktop but my laptop is fine. I never got to the bottom of it, I just always use the laptop for flashing

Strange. I always use my laptop for this king of thing because it's easy to separate from the rest of the network.

Can anyone tell me if flashing any or all of the files puts all the settings back to default?
Also, is there any way I can tell if a long reset has been successful? Short of putting out online and trying it live.

Has your network between the laptop and the modem been assigned as public?

Yes it has. And I don't seem to be able to change it to private :(
