Hi got the chance to try out a new 8800nl r2 router set up seemed straight forward , dsl light came on fine internet came on for a short time then nothing  :( looked at system log and spotted this
Aug  6 07:20:12 daemon err syslog: pppd:Couldn't create new ppp unit: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Aug  6 07:20:12 daemon notice syslog: pppd:Couldn't reset tty to normal line discipline: Bad file descriptor

any clues ? what I've missed cheers

1. Reset the unit back to factory default settings
2. Wait for the DSL light to turn on solid green
3. Login to the device on http://192.168.1.254
4. Use the username 'admin' and password 'admin' to login
5. Click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN Service'
6. Edit the 'PTM' 'PPPOE' Interface
7. Ensure the '802.1P Priority' is set to '0' and the ' 802.1Q VLAN ID ' is set to '101'
8. Enter your ISP username and password in the sections provided
9. Click on 'Apply'
10. Check to see if the internet LED is on, on the front of the router

double check Authentication Method    is set to CHAP or what ever your ISP requires

thanks for reply  :) did a reset flashed latest firmware reconfig and away it went except for the high margin I've got now but will could be all the messing around give it a couple of days to settle and see how it goes on  :fingers: by the way I am on ADSL these newfangled interweb things haven't made it here yet (doubt they ever will  :( )

That doesn't look good, neither the speed nor the error rates.  What sort of stats did you get with your previous router?

I'm ashamed to say I didn't keep copy's of the old stats but did a factory re set and changed dsl cable but it's still not looking impressive I'll have a look at 2& half hours trouble is we've had a few power cuts which has knocked the sync back even further  :no: Think this will be going back where it came from

ok thats it life's to short to mess about with the 8800 so it's on it's way back , next it's going down the DLINK DSL-320B route to see how that copes  :fingers:

So ive managed to get my grubby mits on an 8800nl r2, running on plusnet ADSL 2
I've been searching everywhere on how to interpret the figures ( ie is this good or bad) and the best i can find is some sort of a guides as to what the stats maen, but no interpretation along the lines of a value of X is good and a value of this is poor
