Openreach recommencing upgrade of ECI M41 F/W again?
« on: July 08, 2016, 01:58:17 AM »

The upgrade to ECI cab f/w from 0xb204 to 0xb206 which was started earlier this year, then ground to a halt at around the time of ECI G.INP appears to have been re-started.

I was working on the site and noticed I lost connection for a couple of mins.   Yesterday I was still on 204, but now Im showing as 206.

Looks like I also came back up before my disturbers - differential of 3.2dB.

I certainly hope so! my line could really do with g.inp
I've been stuck on a high level of interleaving since my fibre went live, and months and months of showing good everyday to dlm hasn't reduced the level of interleaving/inp once. My profile reset yesterday when I upgraded to 80/20 and even limiting my line to 45mb my mtbe over the past 5 hours is 60.4 on standard profile. couldn't cut it any tighter if I tried!
I want to keep fast path or have g.inp. having decent pings is important to me as I do a lot of gaming.

I'm still on 0xb204 for now

Just had a look a mine at work, and it changed on 8 June to 0xb206

The above change also coincides with when my SNRM dropped to 5db

The 0xb204 to 0xb206 update is not directly related to G.INP, but the 206 upgrades appeared to grind to a halt around the time of implementation of G.INP.

Its mostly bug fixes - see this post

@ron

Thats interesting about the update and 3dB coinciding at the same time.
I wasn't around when you reported that but I briefly read the post last week and didnt have anything further to say over what wombat already had said, and that at that time it did indeed look like you had a lower target margin but was limited to any full effect due to reaching 40Mb limit.

My sync is also too high to see any full benefits of a 3dB margin.
MDWS didnt capture the SNRm spike from me resyncing before FEXT disturbers, which is why I included the DSLstats graph.

Just checked my home connection and that got updated on the 16th June.

The 5db sync at work didn't last very long, it's back at 6db now, not that it made much difference.

I've taken the liberty of adding "M41" to this thread's subject line, as when I initially saw it, I made an incorrect assumption that it was referring to the firmware for the ECI B-FOCuS modems!

So far I'm still on the old firmware modem and hanging on to fastpath for 62 days so far.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if they update the hardware that cabinet. I might finally have to change modems to the upgraded firmware I got on there lol.

Well it's no wonder it ground to a halt as the finger was being pointed in the 206 direction as a the possible reason why ECI cabinets were having issues with G.INP

I even seen posts that it should be rolled back to 204  ???

I just had a resync, my cabinet finally updated from 204 to 206
It's changed the power quite a bit
Downstream power dBm has dropped from 12.6 to 5.6
Upstream power dBm has increased from 4.3 to 5.5
Downstream band D3 has reappeared using tones around 2800 to 3140. I've only ever had this once on this line, but it disappeared after a resync

What effect is the power change likely to have?
Upstream attainable has gone up slightly but this could be due to to US SNRM coming back at 5dB
Downstream attainable has gone up also with SNRM at 6dB. Will this be from the 3rd DS band being used?
I also had 11 SES at the time of the resync. This should be ignored right?

I think it's just bugged reporting of the power level. Your modem can measure the power level of the signal it receives, but the only way it's going to know the power level transmitted by the DSLAM at the other end of the wires is by the DSLAM telling it the figure.
