Missing stats every hour - MDWS/HG612modem stats.
« on: April 24, 2016, 06:51:18 PM »

Rather than take another thread off-topic. - link  Thought I best open a new thread and continue the conversation in the relevant section.

I first noticed that MDWS was always showing 98% upload.
Its not a major issue, just thought I'd try to find out what is happening.

Every hour at about the same time, practically like clockwork I get a tiny gap on MDWS even if the PC is idle.

Ive tried looking into this and it would appear that HG612modem stats isnt uploading to MDWS.

I was expecting it to occur at 18:34, so I sat here with Task Man open and all that happened is CPU went from 1% to 4% at time of stat collection.

These are the affected logs:

Obviously something is causing a duplicate HG612_stats.exe every hour.    Any ideas where to look next please?

Didnt expect this (see below) when I went to check via the clock (Win7Pro)

Ive now allowed it, but anyhow Ive gone in the long way via Task Scheduler and it is set 01:00 every Sunday of every week.

Looking at your logs, it does indeed seem to be that known Microsoft issue.

Sometimes, just starting/stopping the logging or deleting the task & creating a new one might help on a temporary basis.
It is probably only a temporary fix as the timing seems to creep by a minute every so often, so the chances are that two instances would attempt to run again at some time.

Usually, only one instance would be exited & the other one would continue to run, but as they sometimes start so close together, each instance probably detects that the other one is running & each one decides to exit rather than cause the program to hang indefinitely.

The Microsoft fix definitely seemed to fix the problem for me when I was using Windows 7.

yeah install the hotfix, reboot and then wait to see if its resolved.

by the way I think windows built in time sync is crap, the software I use is free and called nettime.

grab from here. http://www.timesynctool.com/

@Chrysalis
Likewise - except I set it every 15 mins   Windows default is every 10 days from memory although you use the Registry to set it to any period down to 15 mins.

At least two the 6 machines around here lose or gain up to around 1 sec/hour or so and it doesn't take long for a clock to get a long way out. Nettime is good and if you use uk pool servers in the mix it's even better.  Attached is my setup.

NB: This PC sleeps overnight hence the network error.

yeah  I shortened the default also, I think mine is once an hour.

perhaps its a good idea to have the url for the hotfix and nettime in the software posts.  As I know you are trying to stop people having out of sync clocks when uploading.

yeah install the hotfix, reboot and then wait to see if its resolved.

There isnt a hotfix any more.  The link is dead.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hotfix/kbhotfix?kbnum=2461249&kbln=en-us

Sorry, the page you requested is not available.
The page you were looking for is currently not available.

iirc, you had to jump through some sort of hoops with M$ to get the hotfix even when it was available and it wasnt offered as a quick plug and play fix anyhow.   BE will know more as he has talked about it in the past.

@BE

Thanks.

I've deleted the task and re-created a new one to see if that helps.    :fingers:

When I went to download the hotfix, on the first attempt, I got an EULA to agree to, then the page not available message.

When I then repeated trying to download it, I got presented with a list to tick which version of Windows I wanted the hotfix for, and boxes to put my email address in for Microsoft to email me a link to the hotfix. I did not try submitting my email address to see if it actually emails me as promised.

Because Ive been so busy not had chance to do anything about this.
I tried deleting the task (twice) but that doesn't seem to have worked.
No idea why it should start out of the blue, when its been fine for a while.

The page which gave me a 404 the other day is weird.  Sometimes it returns a 404 and yet now its just shown me a page for which Ive requested the hotfix.

@chrys - it that the one for Win7?   I wasnt sure as there was a couple of different versions.

Mines arrived:  File name is 442972_intl_x64_zip.exe.   Unzipped file contains Windows6.1-KB2461249-x64.msu  so it is the same as the link Chrys gave.
