When they put this cabinet in a few years ago I distinctly remember thinking it was in very bad location, and would have been much safer by the wall.

Wonder how long it will take them to replace it and if they switched all the EU to ADSL in the meantime.

How have they put all the EUs on ADSL?

I don't know if they have, but it seems the right thing to do. It would mean disconnecting the link cables from the PCP and reconnecting the original lines so they don't go via the FTTC  cabinet,  they'd need to do this to get the phones working again anyway. But the modems at the EU would need to be reconfigured or changed to be  compatible  with adsl.

I suspect the choice of its location was made for the ease in obtaining a power supply connection. 

From seeing that back view in the "before" image it looks, to me, like it was an ECI equipped cabinet. Perhaps the person responsible for its "removal" was dissatisfied with the recent G.Inp fiasco and how end users connected through such cabinets are perceived, by some, to be second class when compared to those end users connected through Huawei equipped cabinets.

All original cabinets around here are ECI. The thought did cross my mind that somebody intentionally run it over, it'll be interesting to see what they replace it with.

Taking a closer look at the after image, it doesn't seem as if there is anything worth salvaging . . . so there's no point in me making a day-trip to Thanet with the aim of collecting some more equipment for the grotto!

Ouch seeing the utter destruction of the cab, I do hope that who-ever hit it was ok.

I note the lack of internals - presumably BT salvaged the DSLAM and took it away?   I dont imagine it will be in use again, but it will be interesting to see if they replace it with another ECI or change it to a Huawei.
If all of the cabs in the area are ECI and @ the headend exchange is an ECI element manager they may replace like for like.

Well you could have tested on my actual cab   

The BDUK cabs are Huawei cabinets, got a few on the same exchange as ECI cabinets now.

I don't know what saddens me more. The fact the police have put crimescene tape around the scrap metal, or the fact that they'll probably just replace it with another ECI.

It seems that some time over the last ten days they've installed a temporary cabinet, which is on a trailer.

I wondered whether BT had any mobile cabinets for exactly this kind of problem. Good to see that they do!

From the look of the most recent picture, the accident seems to have taken out the top of the nearby streetlight too. Ouch

Hmm, good question and not one I can answer I'm afraid. I've never seen one actually used in anger but have seen one garaged at an Exchange on a different patch to mine.

I have unfortunately witnessed a lot of Cabs demolished by vehicles ........... myself and a colleague chatted about this a while back about how the older you get, the more you tend to feel exposed when working at the side of, or on carriageways.
Speeding drivers really make my p1ss boil !!!
