Empty box for sale on eBay
« on: February 12, 2012, 10:02:56 AM »

This looks like the bargain of the decade, and only two of them left. But I'm not sure if they ship to the UK. ;D

That's a disappointment then. :(

Still, I've got a few similar boxes of my own, so maybe I should be thinking about putting them up for sale. ::)

Even the Big Boys get busted for this scam.  They are selling their genuine retail boxes in the knowledge that they will be used to sell secondhand, repaired or even counterfeit items as new and BOXED.  In this case, the box is for a Nikon lens that costs around US$1000 new.

One of the largest PC sellers was reprimanded after being caught doing just this.  It was using a cut-out company for the arm's length sale of empty new boxes for its PCs. These were mostly for its suppliers who re-boxed returns and repairs and re-sold them as 'new'.

Ah yes, it's a scam. That at least makes sense.

Another possible 'market' would be the thief who steals a shop display model, or burgles it from a house or a car. He can greatly increase an item's value and saleability if he can supply it in 'original' packaging.   Although it's probably not the thief but his 'fence' who appreciates the potential value of the equipment by re-packaging it as "BNIB" (to use the ebay parlance).
